Gasunie Transport Services B.V. has published its annual report for the 2025 financial year
Annual report 2025: Natural gas a crucial link in the energy supply
Geopolitical tension and changes in the energy supply underline the importance of a robust and reliable gas system, according to the annual report published today by Gasunie Transport Services (GTS). Natural gas continues to play an indispensable role as an energy source. The gas infrastructure thus forms a stable pillar of the Dutch energy supply.
2025 in figures
• GTS transported 63.4 billion m3 of natural gas. This equates to approximately 685 TWh.
• The security of supply and transport of our natural gas network remained consistently high at 99.99998%.
• GTS transported 6.1 billion m³ of natural gas to electricity power stations. This equates to approximately 60 TWh, representing almost 10% of total transport.
• GTS generated a turnover of €1,004 million.
More natural gas transported
In 2025, GTS transported 6.2% more natural gas than in the previous year. This increase reflects a clear shift. Whilst gas transport to industry fell, demand from electricity power stations rose by 17%. When energy from the sun and wind is not available, electricity power stations run on natural gas to meet demand and maintain electricity production. Last year, GTS transported record volumes of gas to the electricity power stations, particularly during cold, dark winter days. This growth underlines the flexible role that natural gas plays in our current energy supply. It therefore remains a crucial link in the reliability of our energy infrastructure.
A resilient and future-proof gas system
Geopolitical developments and changes in supply highlight the importance of a resilient and future-proof gas system. Europe is increasingly vulnerable to adverse geopolitical developments. This vulnerability is partly caused by a decline in European gas production and greater reliance on LNG. GTS recently published a resilience analysis showing that additional measures are needed to cope with a months-long disruption to gas supplies. Read the full resilience analysis here.
Highlights from 2025
• Network users, network operators and Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) reached an agreement around the turn of the year on a new approach to tariff regulation. Thanks to intensive cooperation, there is now a sector-wide agreement that provides confidence and clarity.
• The Wijngaarden compressor station was expanded in 2025. With two additional pipelines, the site has been adapted to handle reversed gas flows.
• Hynetwork is constructing a nationwide hydrogen network in the Netherlands over the coming years. Part of this network consists of repurposed natural gas pipelines . We prepared for this in 2025 and are likely to hand over the first pipeline in 2027.
• We are working hard to increase the share of green gas. In 2025, Dutch production rose to 336 million m³. That is a 14% increase compared to 2024. We worked on mobile boosters, connected large green gas production sites to our regional transmission network and made progress with the collector pipeline.

Our activities described in the annual report are subject to the Dutch Energy Decree and Energy Regulation, and several of the articles relate to the financial statements. This is something we want to make very clear, which is why we have produced a summary entitled "Energy Decree and Energy Regulation articles and the Annual Report 2025". This summary shows where these articles are discussed in the annual report.
