Virtual interconnection points (VIPs)

Gasunie Transport Services (GTS) has established virtual interconnection points (VIPs) to connect the TTF market area with adjacent markets in Germany and Belgium.

The purpose of VIPs is to simplify and streamline cross-border trading between market areas.

In accordance with European regulation 2024/1789, all existing capacity contracts at interconnection points (IPs) were obligatory transferred to the corresponding VIP by 5 February 2025. All available cross-border capacity will be offered via a VIP.

This page provides further explanation on how GTS has implemented VIPs.

VIP principe

Which VIPs has GTS established?

GTS has consolidated 18 interconnection points (IPs) into four VIPs. The table below shows which IPs are assigned to which VIP. As of 1 March 2025, network point Tegelen 300138 is decommissioned in consultation with the adjacent network operator (NNO). The IP–VIP mapping is also included in Appendix 1 of the TSC.

The principle is clarified in the overview below.

VIPs and diversion

As transmission system operators (TSOs) have the ability to distribute gas flows across different physical points, it is also possible to facilitate diversions between VIPs and IPs that share a common physical location.

Due to the completed conversion from L-gas to H-gas in Belgium, and at the request of ACM, CREG and Fluxys, GTS offers the possibility to divert contracted L-gas capacity to H-gas capacity. This is enabled through an additional diversion option between VIP BENE-L and VIP BENE.

Appendix 3 of the TSC outlines the supported diversion combinations. You can use the diversion procedure.
